Ekphrasis exercise from the Plath class, looking at painting by DeChirico
Abstract Art
Oh, Roman knight, you are a sight!
Your sinewed legs like molded clay,
your macho-male identity
confounded by your décolleté.
Your eyes on vines drape ‘round your neck,
your Leggo parts netted up front,
bare feet, bare head, oh, what the heck,
you’re just a heap of silly junk.
Centered in perfect symmetry,
you stand for all the world to see.
Just why your maker painted you
is sheer befuddlement to me.
